Meet Spot

If you’ve ever visited Poopsie’s, chances are you’ve spotted what looks like a friendly green monster with one giant eye, a toothy grin, and bright red polka dots. But have you ever wondered who he is?  Well, first of all, he’s not a monster. He’s not a sea creature either. He’s an alien. However, he’s not one of those scary space invaders you often see in the movies or read about in books, but a cute, cuddly extraterrestrial that would never hurt even a fly.

A long time ago in a galaxy not-so far away (ours, actually), a little green alien hailing from a distant planet beyond our solar system was traveling the cosmos in search of fun, friends, and adventure. His ship was struck by a shooting star, and he crash-landed on Earth—specifically, in Galena, Illinois. With his ship severely damaged and lacking the technology and resources needed to repair his only way home, the alien found himself stranded on our planet. He took refuge inside the first place he saw—Poopsie’s! (The bright red awning was hard to miss, and it reminded him of the red spots on his body.)

While exploring the store, the alien stumbled upon some leftover apple pie from the staff dinner party earlier that night. Low on energy and needing sustenance, he scarfed down the pie in one bite and fell asleep in the store’s storage closet, where Poopsie’s owners, Alana and Traci, found him the morning after.

Given the alien’s distinctive red spots, Alana and Traci decided to call him “Spot.” Attempts to discover Spot’s real name or where he came from were largely unsuccessful, but not for lack of trying. You see, it’s not because Spot doesn’t speak but because he can’t speak—at least in Earth’s atmosphere. He has become accustomed to human greetings, gestures and body language though, and especially enjoys hugs and smiles, which he returns tenfold.

Spot is a beloved member of the Poopsie’s family and Galena community. When he’s not curled up for a nap or enjoying a slice of apple pie, Spot loves exploring Poopsie’s and discovering new friends. Every now and then, his curiosity leads him out onto Main Street for a little adventure—just not when it’s raining.  Spot doesn’t like rain. 

If you ever see Spot, don’t be afraid to wave, flash a smile or give him a hug. Chances are, he’ll do the same! In fact, aside from apple pie, nothing recharges Spot quite like hugs and smiles. He’s grown several sizes since first landing on Earth, fueled by all the love he’s “soaked up” from his new friends. Now, he’s always ready to share that love right back with everyone he meets.
